Rep. Murphy met this week with World War II hero and Auburn resident Vince Speranza to discuss House Joint Resolution 15 which Rep. Murphy filed this year to declare November 1, 2019 as “Vietnam Veterans Recognition Day” in the state of Illinois. Mr. Speranza has dedicated his post-military service to supporting his fellow veterans and believes we must recognize the service of veterans of the Vietnam war, many of which did not receive the proper treatment and support from the American public upon their return home from that war.
“I am honored to work with Vince to show our strong support for all the veterans of the Vietnam war and ensure that each one of them knows how much we appreciate their service and sacrifice on behalf of our country,” said Rep. Murphy
“HJR 15 is one small token of appreciation to the brave men and women who served in Vietnam and I look forward to discussing it with my colleagues in the House in the coming weeks.”
HJR 15 further offers an apology to any Vietnam veteran who was mistreated after their service ended and directs the flags of Illinois be flown at half-staff in recognition of all those who served in the Vietnam war.
