State Representative Mike Murphy has secured positions on key House committees that will tackle issues crucial to our local communities, including museums and tourism, and funding for colleges and universities.
In his first term in the Illinois House, Representative Murphy (R-Springfield) has garnered a coveted spot on the House Higher Education-Appropriations Committee that provides a first review of funding issues for our universities and community colleges.
‘The University of Illinois at Springfield and Lincoln Land Community College are cornerstones of our community. With this committee assignment, I can help make sure their needs and the needs of all of our colleges and universities are met,” Rep. Murphy said.
Representative Murphy said he is also looking forward to his work on the House Museums, Arts and Cultural Enhancement Committee and the House Transportation: Vehicles and Safety Committee.
“Our district is rich in history, and tourist destinations that drive our local economy, so the Museum Committee is an exceptionally good fit; as is the Transportation Committee that is so important to our local farmers and livestock producers,” Rep. Murphy added.
During the 100th General Assembly, Representative Murphy will also serve on the House Adoption and Child Welfare Committee and the House Financial Institutions Committee.
“I am very pleased with all of these assignments. They are going to provide our local communities a place at the table in debating a wide range of important issues this year and next,” Rep. Murphy concluded.
