Rep. Murphy: Minimum Wage Increase Will Mean Fewer Opportunities

“As a former small business owner in Springfield, the employees who worked for me were truly part of our extended family so I understand this issue on both sides. The reality is that raising the minimum wage to $15 in just a few years will ultimately hurt the very workers that are supposed to be helped the most by this increase. I believe that SB 1 will lead to many lost opportunities for men and women across our state at a time in which they need those opportunities the most. I believe we can work together on solutions that can really help workers in Illinois that will lead to higher paychecks for families in every corner of the state. I am committed to working in a bipartisan manner to pursue policies that lead to higher wages for every hard working person in this state.”
